Home Depot offers some great kids crafts on Saturdays.
My kids especially enjoyed making Valentines day “in-boxes” this year! I loved the idea. I nailed them up by both of their doors, and put some Valentines in both of them several times.
As Valentines day ended, and the removing of past holiday decor came to mind… I thought; how sad! These were so cute, and such a good way to slip sweet notes in their boxes… whenever!
Then I realized, why not? Who says I can’t leave their Valentine Day boxes up all year-long? (In fact I also have a couple of rope lights from Christmas that are still up because I just like them! 🙂 )
So here’s to VALENTINES DAY is EVERYDAY. It’s a reminder to me to put encouraging, affirming notes in their boxes. They are even doing it for one another now! What a great teaching moment about loving one another. We don’t need a special holiday or reason to give the gift of a love note. We don’t need to wish someone big blessings just on a Birthday or New Years. We don’t have to wait to celebrate Jesus birth on Christmas. So away with compartmentalizing the holidays! Every day is cause for celebration, and the giving of affirming LOVE Unconditionally!
“Your heart is free, have the courage to follow it.” ~ Braveheart
“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. That’s what I hope to give you forever.” ~ The Notebook
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging symbol.” ~ 1st Corinthians 13
It’s true.
Those who do Professional Certified Life, Relationship or Business coaching should have their own personal paid-for coach. (at least 1)
Why? I’m glad you asked 🙂
Benefits of hiring a Life Coach *You’re Invested
Whether you hire a Life Coach, Business Coach, Sports Coach, Relationship coach etc. the moment you INVEST in yourself at that level, it raises the stakes. Now you have something very measurable to lose. In our culture, we don’t like to lose, we like to succeed. So investing in ourselves gives us some equity, or “skin in the game”. Now I’m not on the bench just chatting with people about my life theoretically, hoping it will spontaneously start going better. I have a clear intention of getting better results. I have made a decision to hire someone to help me facilitate that goal. And now I have money and more importantly TIME on the line. I deserve to make this worth my while. ~Most people don’t go to that level of commitment until they are serious about their goal.
*Proven Results
Tangible positive results are almost a guarantee when you hire a Life Coach.(almost)
The almost is the disclaimer, because you DO have to show up after you have made the decision, and paid. And after you show up, both to the appointments with your coach AND to the commitments/goals you set with your coach and yourself, you have to stay the course to make the whole deal work. ~It’s like a purse, what you put into it, you will get out of it. Go big = Get big. Pure and simple. *New Tools
Masterminding with someone who is a professional masterminder- is truly profound. They not only know how to, they are gifted at “revelation communication”! They are invested in you once you hire them- they know they need to make you more successful to keep their job! And the great ones are CALLED to it. Like a great teacher or author, you have to be passionate and LOVE coaching at your core. It needs to be the thing that when you can help a light go on for someone, it literally makes your soul SING. If that is the case for a coach, they will give you new enlightenment from that calling, deep inspiration to fuel your dreams, and incredible ideas and tools you didn’t have before to propel you towards your goal faster and with more measurable success. They can actually save you a lot of time, money and anxiety by helping you with your blueprint to success. Even if you’re an amazing Life or Business Coach, meet with another and they will have skills, perspectives and experiences you don’t have to pull from to make you greater. We never “arrive”. ~If we are willing, we do intentionally evolve, until our last breath.
*Objectivity
Let’s face it- we are usually not that objective about ourselves. This can be a huge stumbling block. A professional coach has the duty to tell you what is working and not working from their perspective. They can speak into your life from a one step removed place that you simply cannot. They can say “Please don’t wear that tie, it sends a terrible message to your audience” And they don’t care that your wife gave it to you and asked you to wear it! They can see boundary issues at work or home that are affecting your time, energy and emotional capacity. They can look at your website and tell you, “I am lost, where am I going on this web site?” Because it’s not their best friend that created the web site. Even if it’s you that created the web site, they are only invested in making you better, so they will be honest, even painfully so- to facilitate your positive growth. They will tell you, based on their experience and skills how to attract your target market, not just people like you. If you don’t have a target market yet, they will help you nail one down, again- from objectivity. If you are like me, you may have 100 amazing ideas. But having someone grill me, process me and fine tune what order those should be prioritized in is something they can do way faster than I can do for myself-period. ~Your Coach can stay focused, and not go running down bunny trails when they see something “shiny”.
*Accountability
Half the reason, or at least a huge part of the reason coaching works is ACCOUNTABILITY.It’s not that you don’t have a lot of the head knowledge that the coach does. Maybe you do. Knowing it and doing it consistently are very different things. A basketball player knows how to dribble. Shoot. Run plays. But you have to show up to practice DAILY to play in the big game. You come to practice sometimes….only because you have to! You would probably rather go to a movie some days, if you are normal. But they are counting on you, and YOU are counting on you to play in the big game. And deep down you know, even on your “off” days, practice makes you better, more consistent, and bonds you to your team. No matter how good you are, you need accountability to show up and push yourself to your max daily, weekly monthly and long-term. A good coach is a huge part of what pushes us to show up and play our best, every day. ~It’s harder to break your word of honor to a coach, and a team, than to just yourself.
I have seen far too many people in the human development industry, from counselors, to Psychologists, to Life Coaches etc. not do most of the things in their OWN lives that they preach and teach! In fact, often times these folks rush into the intellectual book knowledge of how to help others before doing their own work on themselves. I find this to be dangerous. I don’t say this lightly, but a GOOD Life Coach has a HEAP of personal integrity! They don’t ask others to do what they are not doing or have not done themselves. They have integrity in being healthy and grounded in ALL areas of their life before they help someone clean up theirs. Now, that’s not to say they should be perfect. I certainly am not. But I have seen people who are in a shambles in their relationships, or their finances are a train-wreck, or they are terribly dishonest, and yet they rush into opportunities to tell others how to do all things well. If a Life Coach doesn’t consistently get their own help in the areas they are off-line, they are not who you want coaching you. If they say they have it all together, all the time, they are not honest. ~Remember: A Coach can only coach you up to the level of knowledge, experience and intuition they have, and not above it. Michael Jordan was already the best Offensive Basketball player in the NBA. That wasn’t enough for Mike. He hired a personal defense coach to help him be the best in defense also. He knew offense was his natural niche, but he wanted to cultivate more off the chart skills, and he didn’t just keep playing the same old game to do it. He hired a specialist, and that coach helped him to prioritize those new goals in alignment with what he had already succeeded in. MJ became known after that as one of the best ALL AROUND players that ever played the game. You don’t throw out what is working, you just work on new goals while you maintain what you have already achieved. ~The most successful people in any category have coaches/mentors of their own.
I have several paid coaches. A Speaking Coach, a Business Coach, and a Spiritual Coach. I have other mentors as well. I meet with them in person, online and by phone weekly, monthly etc. There are tangible measurable reasons hiring a LIFE COACH works. It takes you to your next “Level Up” I like to call it. ~It truly produces improved results in all the areas you focus on, and even in areas that just benefit from other areas getting into alignment.
What do you want? What are you doing to truly cultivate what you say you want? It takes more than a good idea or rhetoric. Don’t die with the music still inside of you. Go after that dream. Don’t wait.
The two most powerful feelings, or emotions… are perhaps Love and Fear. Some say our beliefs, and consequently are actions always motivated by the essence of one or the other.Love defined:
a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
Fear defined:
a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined.
They have some things in common. They are both Nouns. They are both intense. They can both be imagined into existence, that is to say, we can believe we LOVE something or someone, even if we have never experienced that something or someone. Likewise, we can FEAR situations that we have never experienced first hand, and may never. It is said (by super smart scientific people- no doubt) that somewhere between 80-95% of all fears we imagine NEVER HAPPEN. Wow. I think that might be true, based on my experience with teams and Life Coaching people.
”Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight.”~Benjamin Franklin
How much time do you spend stressing or worrying? Relationally. Financially. About your Career or Job. Politics. Health. NOW, contrast that to how much time you spend on what you CAN control, or at least those things you can do something about?? We can always put love deposits into our relationships that make that love account grow. We can always work on doing better on where and how we spend, save and give charitably our finances. We can always be evolving to a more educated, more productive place in our jobs or careers or areas of service. I’ll say this on politics… you can at least VOTE. 🙂 And you can be positive, not just bash others beliefs in that arena, which isn’t valuable. We can always be healthier…with exercise, whole natural foods, and getting away from processed junk food etc. (say NO to the Golden Arches!)So if you’re willing; take inventory on LOVE DAY (that’s today if you missed it 🙂. What are you investing your time, energy health and money into? Is it paying you big positive dividends? If not, start making deposits proactively and positively in especially your relationship accounts first. Relationships only go into recession when we are not cultivating them in all the ways we can….as the good book tells us to.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. ~ Proverbs 3:3
Fluid- Continuous, amorphous, whose molecules move freely past one another and that has the tendency to assume the shape of its container.
Is your companies branding relevant? Is it working? Or is it static…..
“The consumer now appears to believe that the brand should earn its public attention the way all of us must. Say boring, repetitive stuff and you suffer the punishment that every bad conversationalist faces. First, we ignore you. Then, we exclude you.”~Grant McCracken / Harvard Business Review
Ouch. I don’t like to be excluded, do you?
We live in a postmodern society that is eclectic, — a culture where the collective media is literally at our fingertips 24 hours a day. It is a burst of 3D color and seemingly limitless (and sometimes frightening) capability. Your brand today has to go farther than the standard printed visual model we have come from. To be relevant now it must trend across multi-generations, and all the top technological platforms. People today won’t remember just a “professional” logo or branding, they want to interact with it and emotionally connect to it. This is a huge call to action for us as we either initially create, evolve and update, and ultimately market our brands.
D&P says it so well. We then need: “…a robust brand language that is endlessly adaptable, flexible and immediately recognizable.”~Duffy & Partners’- identity creators
With social media becoming (or being) the most powerful marketing force in our society, it is said that the customer is now driving the brand identities more than the company itself. To keep this in balance, your company needs to always be aligned with the CORE PRINCIPLES that formed the brand at it’s inception. If you do that, then your brand can evolve, and become fluid– that is to say adapting it’s shape depending on the trending and need.
Consider Google for example, which changes it’s logo background and colors, as they did on MLK Jr’s day…
They keep some of their initial logo foundational structures while playing with images and color. It’s exciting and ever-changing.
Google’s “New Multi-screen World” study reveals that 90% of all media consumption happens on a screen — 40+% of which in the US is on smartphones alone. (that percentage grows by the minute) WOW.
90% of people use multiple screens to interact with brands (shopping online, managing finances, planning a trip and more). 61% of Internet users are online while watching TV, and do it on a variety of devices — laptops, tablets and smartphones. The current dominance of digital and social media combined with the Internet capable mobile devices, has changed the way we experience brands so they now are seen, tasted, touched and felt.
Advertisers now use their TV commercials as mega platforms for intense online trending, knowing that their market will have the ability to go to the web sites straightaway, as they sit on their couch, and share info with their social sphere. We saw this with the “God Made a Farmer” commercial, ( “God Made a Farmer” ad by Ram is a two-minute salute to the men and women who feed the world.) which turbo-blasted the face social media, and took that commercial to a debatable more buzz-worthy place than the game itself. See the link below if you now feel like watching it again 🙂
The take away for you:
1) What are the CORE PRINCIPLES of your company?
2) Is your companies branding at a FLUID place, evolving with the culture, yet holding it’s true essence simultaneously?
3) If your branding isn’t there in this moment, what is the first step you can take this week to change that? 4) And will you?
5. Don’t start with a quote from someone else. It may sound powerful, but leaves the audience thinking about someone else. (who may be more famous than you- just saying)
4. Don’t mention Politics. Yes, we have officially entered into an era where the most controversial subject of the moment is not religion, but Politics. Don’t go there. (Unless you are speaking at a rally) You will lose half your audience if you do. (and maybe some friends if you take a side)
3. Don’t start late. Even if half your audience is late, start on time. (at least in the U.S.) They can be tardy. They are not leading the room, YOU are! So be professional, start on time. It’s a good lesson for those late peeps that life goes on, and they may miss out at times with their tardiness. Be in control of your room. This makes everyone feel confident in you as a leader.
2. Don’t swear. Regardless of your personal feelings on this, you have an audience typically of different people from all walks of life. They have different backgrounds, beliefs and comfort levels. It’s a slippery slope as speaker, and may cause you to lose part of or all of your audience if you go there. (unless you’re a comedian in a bar)
1. Don’t forget “The Sandwich”. Strong Beginning. Strong Middle. Strong End. Whether you’re speaking for five minutes or five days- this is paramount to your success. The Beginning- First impressions are made within the first seven seconds consciously or subconsciously. (wow) The Middle- Keep their attention, or they will be on Facebook/Twitter saying how bored they are. (yikes for your reputation) The End. IF you want to be remembered, if you want amazing referrals, and/or if you want to make a positive impact in their lives….nail the ending friends! Call them to some kind of action based on your powerful presentation. Leave them wanting more. Leave them wanting to buy your book. Get them making a bee-line to see you at your booth, and logging onto your website to find out where you will be speaking next.

Twenty years ago, I watched phenomenal facilitators work with people in human development. I studied and listened in awe while they, as we say in Personal Development Land, “processed” their students. These facilitators or coaches would do focused work with the students, from the students point of tension, pain or confusion. The facilitator would guide them, as the student was willing, to the other side, or at least help them to take some real some steps forward. This experiential learning is profound in both business settings, or personal growth.
I was amazed.
It was incredible to see these coaches real-time, and watch as their intuitive hits rang spot on, nearly every time they spoke. What?? Yes.
In my naiveté I wondered… how do they know? How do they see what’s behind the mask of emotion, the story, the walls, or the rhetoric? How did they know that person was ready to finally breakthrough or scale? Now, I know.
It’s a calling.
Sounds spiritual. And…I believe it is. When you step into your calling, purpose or cause, the greatest parts of you are unlocked and ignited. Your intuitive or spiritual self combines with your ability, education and effort. When you find the thing or things that you were created to do, if you’re aware, you know.
And then there’s the final key to mastery, time. You can’t quick-link to that level of mastery simply from text books, teachers and mentors. You can’t metabolize quotes, information or inspiration, such that you can just propel it forward into others, with spot on timing and nearly flawless delivery.
When someone who isn’t ready attempts a mastery level role, their students or employees won’t find as much value.
The gold, magic and pure power of experience, collaborates to bring all your raw talent and passion together. It’s hard to articulate if you’ve never experienced it yourself.
I studied hard. I was trained, mentored, and certified in personal development and business consulting. #serialentrepreneur I worked and I served for countless hours. Years of being a committed, consistent student, working from where I was, both failing and succeeding along the way… and yet reaching for mastery. Those are the touchstones of my capacity to deliver my work today. And I just adore what I do.
The Big Mistake…
Is- skipping parts of this rights-of-passage process, because of impatience, poor mentoring, ego or entitlement. To be exceptional, your mastery levels must always be humbly, earned.
Don’t skip any part of the perfect process that these elements will bring to your practice, cause or calling. The old truth of 10,000 hours of experience, or something like that, truly is the golden key that brings your vision to fruition.
The Secret
Humility reminds you to take the journey, with no shortcuts. Humility… when you know that there is so much yet to learn about, experience and understand. And when you reach a mastery level, you will know. But, you will still make mistakes. And you won’t think of the epic successes as yours, but they will belong to your clients, and those you mentor.
And as you continue, more humility greets you with the kiss of knowing, that we are all equally called to greatness. No one is ever bigger or smaller in the circle. It’s not about Race. Geography. Gender. Profession. Religion. The big difference is, only some say yes to the call.
SO I am a guest tomorrow on the wildly popular Idaho TV show, with it’s creator Derrick Boles. It’s called; Courageous Conversations.
This topic tomorrow, on RACE, definitely takes courage to talk about, especially on TV! It is charged with media spins, politics, old hurtful history, ignorance on all sides to some degree, and a fierce lack of solutions.
Part of me wants to be silent, like I am often on social media, with topics such as these. Why? Because I don’t want to be blown up over my thoughts. And I don’t want to offend, hurt, or confuse ANY of my friends.
But, as my friend Derrick and I have often said in our private conversations, this is part of the problem. The only dialogue happening about Race today is the media spun, anger infused, irrational talk that only fuels this long burning fire of sad segregation in our country.
I love all people. I truly do. I want us ALL to be able to ask each other questions, both ways. I want to be taught what you think and feel, AND I would like to be heard too.
I am not a racist, simply because of my White skin, as you are not any of the stereotypes you may feel you live under.
We are all children of God, and we need to begin COMPASSIONATE, Courageous Conversations, now, before it’s too late for the US to do so. Join us? Before we lose each other, and everything we have all worked so hard for.
“Please plan to tune in to my television series ‘Courageous Conversations’ this Sunday at 11:30 am on Channel 12. Topic: Race to Resolution” Derrick Boles
In my Business Consulting and Life Mastery Coaching, one desire seems to be consistent in people from all walks of life. People from every background, religion, race, personality type, culture, belief system, profession etc. seem to have this in common: we all want to be significant today, maybe now more than ever before.
I have found the only exceptions to this common desire, are the people who have not yet realized they could attain significance, OR the ones who have given up hope that they will ever experience it personally.
What IS significance? That answer is as unique as you are, and must be defined by each individual. Importance. Making a difference. Being the change you wish to see in the world. Doing God’s work. Leaving a legacy. Creating a measurable, positive change. How do YOU define it? This is important, if you are searching for “Significance Street” in your life.
Significance can only be defined by you, designed by you, and attained by you.
It may be winning an Olympic Gold Medal, and using that massively public platform to be a positive change agent. OR it may be helping the elderly by making their meals, when no one is watching. Significance for you may be attaining a career in public speaking where you literally touch hundreds or thousands of lives each month. Or it may be about your amazing MLM product that helps people be healthy, one client at a time. You may coach kids, or be a prayer warrior, a financial planner, or a volunteer in cities during disasters, or you may be the best friend or spouse someone could ever have.
It may be, and I believe it usually is, a combination of actions creating tangible results, that come from our core beliefs and habits, that make our lives as a whole significant, if we choose in.
I believe we all are born with a purpose. A way or ways that each one of us, in our own unique strengths, can truly achieve greatness in whatever small and big ways we decide to. Quite often life is a huge challenge, and we each have our weaknesses to navigate. But our individual strengths, when finely tuned, can be our genius that we offer to the world. In fact- I would say we owe it to the world. It needs us. It needs you. From my perspective, our strengths are our spiritual gifts that can empower us to be significant in positive ways, that can create ripple affects of hope and change now, and ongoing.
Check back for Part 2 of The Finding Significance Street Series when we look at the question: What does it take to actually achieve true significance?

What is a Transformational, Experiential workshop?
Is that just a fancy sounding motivational seminar? Yes. And- No. It’s a phenomenal hybrid.
Decades ago, “Personal Development Land” as I lovingly call it, was born. It was a place where people stopped the daily routine and mania. They took an intentional seat to listen to dynamic facilitators give new perspectives on living, collaborating and being. They participated in fascinating, illuminating processes- designed to make you think, notice, stretch and grow. These processes successfully cause significant, tangible, and long term change for the willing participants.
This growth phenomenon caught on, and has evolved over the years. Development draws people in from all walks, professions, pasts, religions and race. It is what the leaders of today just DO. It is today’s advanced personal and professional degree. It is necessary, in order to go where the real influencers in 2014 intend to go.
We have enjoyed our inspirational/motivational seminars over the years… Zig Ziglar. Les Brown. Anthony Robbins. John Maxwell. Jim Rohn… many more. They were and some still are incredible speakers and facilitators. The dominant personalities in this genre have been mostly men. I have personally been mentored by Zig, Les and John, and those are some incredible highlights in my own journey.
Women- it’s our TIME.
Of course, anyone in business, sales, network marketing or Corporate America have done their share of business seminars and classes. Some were epic. Some were…..yawn.
Today– we are all on the move at a rapid rate We don’t compartmentalize things anymore. We don’t have time. And, perhaps we realize our lives are a complex combination of it ALL: Business, Personal, Relational, Financial, Spiritual, Mental, Physical etc.
Welcome to the new model of Transformation. “Destiny 2014”. A Mastermind-Workshop-Motivational-Challenging-Inspirational-Community-Intensive series in July for women. Whew! 🙂
Women who are ready to IGNITE their businesses and their lives to a whole new paradigm of abundance and real, sustainable growth.
Women who are done with average.
Women who know that to scale at significant rates, you must do what few accept the challenge of doing.
Women who are clear that the “360 perspective” is the only current model producing growth at the rate and level they desire.
Women like you.
Time is precious, urgent, and your important message deserves a broader audience. ~sheli G

CEO Women Ignite Idaho Conference and Trade Show
The Women Ignite Idaho team is made up of women just like you…
Passionate. Committed. Seeking. Experienced. Hard Working. Influential. Magical.
Are you in?
Our vision asked an important question as we talked about this year’s conference… What can WII do together?
WII; the Speakers, the Vendors, the Sponsors. WE are all a key component. We are all the heart of this show. As individuals, we know hundreds, even thousands of women who deserve to join us. That’s really big, but….
Together, we know hundreds of thousands of women in the Treasure Valley, and beyond. Live events, email lists and social media connects us all in more ways than we realize. WOW!
Together we are like a typhoon of energy, drawing in the women who are seekers of their greatest moments to come. Together, we cannot be stopped. We achieve our audacious goals, together.
Are you in?
What part do you play? As a Vendor, a Speaker or Sponsor?
We all play a special, key role. Invite your friends, teams, co-workers, and family.
I have been in some shows. I have always offered a service, not a glitzy product.
That is NOT a sexy booth, at least not automatically. How can I compete with flirty Jewelry, silky Chocolate Fondu, cute clothing and women getting their hair done?…..THOSE are pretty fun, interactive and fabulous! Paparazi, V3 Hair Studio, Velata…oh my!
Now step in the: Insurance Agent, Realtor, Financial Planner, or myself… Speaker and Master Certified Business and Life Coach. We are amazing too! But- without all the bling…
At the Empowering Women’s Conference last year, I was in a corner booth by draw, then I walked past the fun and fabulous Premier Designs Jewelry Booth, with sweet as apple pie: Natalie Boerner. Who doesn’t love Natalie? AND her amazing jewels.
And then- the booth right next to me. This was amazingly designed to pristine polished perfection with Pink and Gold and Pearls on steroids, and Denise Nygard with Mary Kay…one of the coolest people. Ever.
I had a little booth intimidation going on at this point.
I was the last speaker of the two day event, which meant I could not WOW anyone to come and connect with me that way. TOO easy. I would have to simply step out in front of my booth, and authentically talk and listen to women. So I did.
And we connected.
What a neat group of women! Women who make it happen. Women with dreams, goals, and fiery ambition. Women growing, learning, challenging the ceiling. Women raising the bar- their own, and helping others go to their next paradigm too.
I met Dr. Janice Lung, Health and Wellness Coach of b.Well. And I met Karen Hughes, now of Mommy’s Club with organic and toxic free products. I met Carolyn Casey, author of “He’s Not Your Girlfriend”, Danae Valle of V3, Karleen Andresen of the stellar IWJ, 2014 Sponsor and Power Partner this year with our conference, Amy Hope Bonar of Origami Owl, and the list goes on and on. Lisa Adams of 107.9 Lite FM, our sponsor and MC in 2013 was a hoot, and she is back again this year! Meeting just ONE of these amazing women was well worth my weekend.
And the Conference. WOW… now there is a chance to collaborate.
Sit next to incredible women that maybe you don’t know. Mingle on breaks and networking spots during the speakers. Laugh, learn and make the kind of business and personal connections we come to make. It was fabulous. It wasn’t thousands of connections that were mostly superficial, then forgotten next week. I made dozens of real connections that can last- forever.
SIZZLING Trade Show Tips
Set up an absolutely amazing Booth. Even if you are a service industry, you can make your back drop fabulous, spend the money and have it look sharp and professional. It will be worth it and pay for itself over and over again.
Have dynamic materials to give out. Not just your cards. Give interesting information on your services, classes, and products. Actual Samples are great.
Do something Interactive! For some this is easy as their products are interactive. But again, be creative. We can all do something that engages people, and gets them moving. Be memorable. Be amazing.
Give something valuable away. Not a paperclip. Skip those. But either a COOL unique gift, OR valuable information that you can provide. If all you have is pens, consider skipping that and just do one giveaway via a drawing that is a nicer gift.
Have sign ups for whatever you do. Make them look professional and engaging. What do YOU sign up for? Engage your contacts and let them see your passion. People don’t buy products and services in the end- they buy YOU. Are you someone they want to buy into? Spend time with? Trust? See again?
Come out from behind the booth. Don’t hide. Be seen. Be real.
Be intentional. You will have a great event, no matter what, if you set yourself up for optimum success, and take every step and measure to ensure you do. What or who can get in the way of that woman? Who would dare to try? 😉
Which Booth would you like to visit of these two?

I’ve been informally doing goals all my life, and more formally since I started athletics and working in sales…so very young. Part of me is “over it”, and part of me totally understands… sometimes it is required and/or really beneficial.
I find however, it is ONLY beneficial if you are *already truly internally motivated towards the things you will be cultivating on and from that list. Otherwise, it’s possibly rhetoric, and you are bound to under-achieve what you listed, or feel underwhelmed by your results.
I like to ponder my own assessment formula first:
what worked this past year, and why?
what didn’t work, and why?
what relationships supported me well, and I them?
what relationships need work, and how?
are there any relationships that need to be scaled back?
what makes my soul absolutely SING? (books, serving others, people, activities…)
am I growing positively as a person?
if so, how am I growing?
what area deserves the most growth/work this next year? (spiritual, financial, physical, etc)
what is my THEME for 2014? (Giving. Risk. Professionalism. Marketing. etc)
Those are pretty simple to answer. Answer them Honestly for real results.
SO…
This is a great thing to ask your-real-self before goal setting.
We can all sit down and make lists if we need to. You can make them all day long.
But what is driving us? What is fueling us? What is in the way? These are good foundational questions, to make sure our goals are really where we want and NEED to go, and not where others think we should go (co-dependents, people pleasers??) or where we have assumed we should go…for some reason.
*What do you REALLY want, what is your soul calling you to do… and how do you need to operate in every aspect of your life to achieve that?
If you were choosing from passion and vision vs. fear and insecurity, what would you go after in 2014? Let us begin!

Leaders. Influencers. Speakers. Authors. It’s time. It’s PAST time. Time to GET REAL.
If you are already real, then cool beans. BUT, If not….
Quit acting like you have no insecurities.
Quit acting like you don’t make mistakes.
Quit acting better than.
Quit being in denial about your own issues, because you’re so good at exposing others weak spots. I know, because we all have them. I have them, big-time. You do too.
Don’t get me wrong. There are some really, really good leaders. GREAT leaders. WORLD CHANGING Leaders! YES! Just- not nearly enough.
Church.
The American Church. Many nice buildings, where people dress up nice. They put on nice faces. AND- they shove down their hurts, habits, hangups, dark secrets and sins…and act all “Sunday School”. Not because they want to, actually. But because that is what they have been trained to do. It’s is what they know how to do in typical church culture. They mean well! They just don’t know how to show up any differently. And, would it be really OK if they did? If they came in smoking. If they admitted to the addiction. If they said their marriage was hanging on by a thread. If they admitted to being attracted to the same sex. If they told you they were bankrupt. If they said they had been abused by a church member….. Well, um…what then? Are we actually ready for that? We should be. They need love, a SAFE place to meet God and do their work, resources, support and answers. I need that. You do too. Bring on the Naked Church.
I know. I actually dread saying it. I cannot believe I am bringing it up. I usually avoid it. It brings up more triggers for people today than religion. For real. It divides us. Even though we all feel we know the right way… The “truth”. Then- why is everything so screwed up? We accuse the Millennials of not trusting or respecting authority. Should they?
We are the voters. All this blame stuff hasn’t worked. To change, to get better, we have to ALL take responsibility. To be accountable- for ourselves, our history, our current state, and mostly for our future. Honestly, can you or I trust what ANY president says? 100%? Regardless of the party affiliation. Would you stake your life on any president being set up in the system we currently have, to tell the TOTAL truth, transparently, without political or personal repercussion or retribution? I need that honesty and transparency in order to trust. You do too. Bring on the Naked Government.

CEO’s.
Many leaders, both men and women, are still driven from EGO the majority of the time. A great education, great experience, a good cause, a great mind…they are not enough today. A true World Changing leader also develops oneself internally; with expansive personal development, spiritual awareness and authentic global concern. Leaders are not just modeling how to do business as usual; they should be modeling how to live a well balanced, truly healthy life in all aspects.
Women currently hold only 4.2 percent of Fortune 500CEO roles, and 4.2 percent of Fortune 1000 CEO roles. Dr. Jack Zenger argues that this is due primarily to a change in leadership styles. Moving from a command-and-control style of leadership to a more collaborative model plays, he argues, to women’s strengths. Women are better listeners, better at building relationships and more collaborative and that, he argues, makes them better adapted to the demands of modern leadership. Asked to explain, therefore, why women haven’t fared better in the corporate hierarchy, he’s at somewhat of a loss. Thirty six percent of men say they want to be CEO, where only 18 percent of women say they do. Women have two jobs — the notorious second shift at home — while men, well, don’t do quite so much. And Zenger thinks also that boards simply lack confidence in women. Few have ever seen a female CEO and don’t recognize that, Dr. Zenger says.
I believe our men can also be supported to bring in more of the relational, collaborative style to their leadership. I think they are hungry for it too. It’s not our dad’s corporate culture anymore. Relationships matter.
There are also too many companies with a culture of cut-throat competition. Collaboration IS inspiration! Don’t we know? Pride on steroids and fierce vs. playful competition drowns the human creative and productive spirit. It also drops your ROI long term.
Some companies have laid so many people off, that they have great people left…doing the job of 3-4 people. I spoke to a friend who manages a team at HP. She said everyone on her team was on some sort of antidepressant. This is the net result, I believe, of asking great people to cram 3 work days into 1. It’s a short term model. It’s unhealthy. A burn out plan. A profit killer.
When will we all get on the train of connectedness, allowing people to find their strengths, and give them the tools to help them identify and cultivate those? Then- allow them to operate and SOAR in those supernatural strengths. That’s what a real leader does- they show others how to harness the World-Changing Leader in themselves. Everyone has sheer brilliance in something. Everyone has passion. People are AMAZING!!!! We all just need to be unlocked. I do. and you do too. Bring on the Naked Leadership.
This is the sassiest blog I have ever written. I would apologize… as I truly don’t mean to offend or hurt anyone. But, it’s really “up” for me. I know because my heart rate is up while I write this! It’s real. I feel it needs to be said. I don’t even know all the reasons why. But there it is. Bring on the Naked Blogging.

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), the US national bird, is the only eagle unique to North America.
Eagles are large, powerfully built birds of prey
Let’s look at some very interesting comparisons between the World Changing Leader and the Eagle. Some may surprise you…
10) Eagles sit at the top of the food chain. This makes them more vulnerable to toxic chemicals in the environment, since each link in the food chain tends to concentrate chemicals from the lower link.
As a leader, there are many dynamics at play when you are at “The Top”.
Zig Ziglar’s famous book, “See you at the Top” written some twenty five years ago wasn’t the first nor will it be the last to attract leaders globally with the focus of being at the top! But what does that mean? To be a leader is a huge responsibility. To whom much is given, much is certainly expected. When you rise up to significant leadership positions of a company or a team, you will have all eyes on you for stand-apart organizational and inspirational direction. However, I find that most leaders, myself included- are much harder on ourselves.
We set our own bar EXCEPTIONALLY (freakin) HIGH.
As we work with people, we find that we are deeply involved/invested in their professional bliss, and their challenges. But we also find ourselves in the midst of their personal ups and downs too. Leadership today isn’t a neatly compartmentalized system. Leaders come along side of the people looking to us for inspired direction, and we do not draw those Black and White lines in the sand. So- we as leaders find ourselves exposed. We are exposed to people’s tragedies, toxins and toils. A World Changing leader knows how to authentically help and direct, but not to metabolize and hang on to those toxins inwardly.
9) Eyesight – An eagle’s eye is at least four times as powerful and sharp as that of a person with perfect vision.
What is it like, to see clearly from miles and miles away- when others can only see in the short distance? World Changers must be able to not only grasp a vision that inspires themselves, but they must be able to articulate that vision outward, and enroll others successfully into that picture.
8) Eagles do not sweat, so they use many other creative cool-down methods.
I know- Leaders DO sweat. 🙂
BUT World Changing Leaders don’t show it. Today’s leader knows when to be vulnerable. To be authentic and real in a country where we have a lot of uber superficiality that is promoted- isn’t easy. *I am a big fan of the Leader that understands the necessity and timing of intentional Vulnerability.
That said, our teams and companies do not need to see us sweat, ie; panic, freak out, over-react, project frustration onto them, or make irrational accusations or decisions. We have all seen leadership like that, be they owners, managers, team leaders or (gulp) the government. What our teams DO need to see from us, is our intentional cool/calm down methods, and come back to them clear, grounded, inspired and ready to continue partnering with them to get through the eye of any storm, together.
7) Eagles tolerate VERY cold temperatures. A bald eagle’s skin is protected by feathers lined with down. Their feet are cold resistant.
Leaders can take subzero temperatures.
Economy turns. Employee challenges. Stiff Competition. Cultural Apathy. The most difficult decisions. High Stakes meetings. Pressure. Extreme COLD and extreme HEAT.
Simon Cowell, creator of American Idol, once told Oprah Winfrey “I have to be that tough on the contestants. If they cannot handle me, my feedback and challenging them, they are no where near ready to face Hollywood and the cold hard press.” How very true. Likewise, if you are too sensitive and defensive, taking everything personally, you will never make it long term as a manager or Entrepreneur. It will destroy you. Not everyone is cut out for the pressure. We all have different, amazing gifts. That is the beautiful thing.
6) Beak. A Bald Eagle’s beak is a strong weapon, but is also delicate enough to groom a mate’s feathers or feed a small portion of food to a newly hatched chick. The beak of a captive eagle is not worn down naturally, so it must be trimmed annually.
I think this is a great metaphor for our powerful voice as a leader.
Leaders do well when they are passionate, eloquent, profound, and phenomenal speakers; from the large crowds to an intimate one on one. Our words have the power to heal, help, and honor. Our words can also wound, tear, and destroy. We must be vigilant to be truly responsible for what we say. Are our words valuable, helpful, wise and thought out? If not, trim back the beak! Get a Life and Leadership Mastery Coach to objectively help. And remember, an “I’m sorry” from a leader is powerful- when it’s authentic. We all screw things up sometimes. World Changers own their mistakes.
5) Talons. Eagles can open and close their talons at will. If an eagle is dragged into the water by a fish too large for the eagle to lift, it is because the eagle refuses to release it. In some cases this is due to hunger.
My friend and mentor Les Brown says “You’ve got to be HUNGRY!”
Hungry IS good. But, scarcity; emotionally, physically, financially, or spiritually for too long- isn’t good. When the fish is too big, or you are not ready, drop it before YOU go completely under. There was a time many years ago that after economic turns, competitive pressures, and a bogus former employee law suit all came into play… I realized that a business I had started, also needed to come to a close. It wasn’t easy at that time. I had prepared for the GO GO GO do do do! I had not realized that some dreams are for a time, and they are meant to end too. Those are the lessons, and our teachers, and they are for a time. It’s OK. If a business, relationship, habit, behavior, addiction, job, or whatever is dragging you under, please- don’t go down with the Titanic. Open your talons and let go!Create the space in your hands and heart for the magnificent fish that is coming, that is the perfect one for RIGHT NOW.
4) Most Birds of Prey look back over their shoulder before they move forward in a hunt. Not Eagles.
Some look back. Don’t.
In my favorite book it says: “Forgetting what is behind, and reaching forth unto what lies ahead. I press on towards the goal!” Phil 3:13.
We cannot actually forget the past. But we can absolutely learn from it, move on from it, and put our energy into this very moment and beyond. That is what future achievements are made up of… starting right NOW.It’s about this moment. Let us begin.
3) Eagles Glide.
With a massive wingspan of up to eight feet, their wings victoriously spread out wide.
To help them soar, eagles use thermals which are rising currents of warm air. Soaring or gliding is accomplished with minimal wing-flapping, enabling them to conserve precious energy. Long-distance flights are accomplished by climbing high in a thermal, then gliding downward to catch the next thermal. Their wings are strong but heavy, so this is a VITAL part of the survival mechanism of the Eagle. Eagles are considered master fliers. They can fly to heights that no other bird can. They have been seen flying as high as some of our airplanes fly.
Several eagles soaring in a thermal together is described as a “Kettle of Eagles.”
So World Changers… jump off that cliff. You were born to. You were trained and educated to. You must! Find the warm winds. Use your powerful wings. But also remember to glide, rest, meditate, and lean on your amazing team. Don’t pump those huge wings all the time! You don’t need too, and you may burn out. Soar when you can. You will need that energy later.
2) Though eagles mate for life, they often fly alone.
World Changing Leaders are loyal. We care about relationships and have learned how to succeed in them. Our families are very important to us.
There are days when leaders feel alone. Make sure that when you need help- you reach out for it. Find a “Kettle of Eagles” to fly in; a mastermind group, a Master Life Coach, a small group that you can be supported by, collaborate and laugh with. World changers do not have to do it all alone.
1) Eagles Live on Higher Ground.Don’t ever sell out!
World Changers are honest. They are compassionate. They give. They give when no one knows they are giving. They don’t create followers, they help support other emerging leaders! They take the high road, the road much less traveled. And that WILL make all the difference. World Changers live on Higher Ground.
