Finding Significance part 1
“What IS Significance”
sig•nif•i•cance (sɪgˈnɪf ɪ kəns)
1. importance; consequence.
2. meaning; import.
3. the quality of being significant.
In my Business Consulting and Life Mastery Coaching, one desire seems to be consistent in people from all walks of life. People from every background, religion, race, personality type, culture, belief system, profession etc. seem to have this in common: we all want to be significant today, maybe now more than ever before.
I have found the only exceptions to this common desire, are the people who have not yet realized they could attain significance, OR the ones who have given up hope that they will ever experience it personally.
What IS significance? That answer is as unique as you are, and must be defined by each individual. Importance. Making a difference. Being the change you wish to see in the world. Doing God’s work. Leaving a legacy. Creating a measurable, positive change. How do YOU define it? This is important, if you are searching for “Significance Street” in your life.
Significance can only be defined by you, designed by you, and attained by you.
It may be winning an Olympic Gold Medal, and using that massively public platform to be a positive change agent. OR it may be helping the elderly by making their meals, when no one is watching. Significance for you may be attaining a career in public speaking where you literally touch hundreds or thousands of lives each month. Or it may be about your amazing MLM product that helps people be healthy, one client at a time. You may coach kids, or be a prayer warrior, a financial planner, or a volunteer in cities during disasters, or you may be the best friend or spouse someone could ever have.
It may be, and I believe it usually is, a combination of actions creating tangible results, that come from our core beliefs and habits, that make our lives as a whole significant, if we choose in.
I believe we all are born with a purpose. A way or ways that each one of us, in our own unique strengths, can truly achieve greatness in whatever small and big ways we decide to. Quite often life is a huge challenge, and we each have our weaknesses to navigate. But our individual strengths, when finely tuned, can be our genius that we offer to the world. In fact- I would say we owe it to the world. It needs us. It needs you. From my perspective, our strengths are our spiritual gifts that can empower us to be significant in positive ways, that can create ripple affects of hope and change now, and ongoing.
